Attracting a quality field of local and interstate middle-distance gallopers, the Kingston Town Classic is conducted at the esteemed Ascot Racecourse on the first Saturday of December and is one of three black-type races at the meeting.
Other features worth checking the online betting markets for on Kingston Town Classic Day are the Group 3 Lee Steere Classic (1400m) and the Listed GA Towton Cup (2200m).
Kingston Town Classic History
First run in 1976, the Kingston Town Classic is now named in honour of legendary racehorse and triple Cox Plate winner Kingston Town who won the race in 1982.
Originally known as the Marlboro 50,000, the race has also been registered as the Western Mail Classic, Rothwells Stakes, Winfield Stakes, Beat Diabetes 2 Stakes and the Fruit ‘N’ Veg Stakes – the various name changes due to sponsorship.
The race was officially changed to the Kingston Town Classic in 2007.
Other changes to the Kingston Town Classic conditions include the race distance, as the event was conducted over a shorter 1600m for three years in 1999 – 2001.
Kingston Town Classic Betting
The Kingston Town Classic gives punters some of the best betting opportunities late in the year and all good online bookmakers including Luxbet and SportsBet have odds open on the Group 1 feature.
There are many earlier lead-up races punters can use as a guide to help them place the winning Kingston Town Classic wagers.
Good events to watch for a guide include the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) in November, the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) and the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) the week before – all held at the same course in Ascot.
Combining these Perth races into betting doubles is another great opportunity to win big, for example in 2009 Sniper’s Bullet won both the Railway Stakes and the Kingston Town Classic.
