Kingston Town Classic 2010 Final Field & Betting Odds

November 30th, 2010

The 2010 Kingston Town Classic is set to take place at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday, December 4, as the final Group 1 showdown at the Festival of Perth Racing.

The $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) final field features 16 quality gallopers lead by the punters’ favourite Playing God.

Leading the Kingston Town Classic betting at a quote of $4.40 through Luxbet, the Neville Parnham-trained Playing God looks hard to beat as the 52kg lightweight of the field.

After carrying a much heavier 58kg to victory last Saturday in the Listed Aquanita Stakes (1800m), impressive Blackfriars colt Playing God also has this season’s Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) win to their name and is the deserved favourite.

Playing God’s older full brother God Has Spoken is also one of the top fancies in this year’s Kingston Town Classic field, the four-year-old currently paying $8.50 to win through Luxbet.

However, last year’s Kingston Town Classic runner-up God Has Spoken needs to step up after finishing a well-beaten eighth in the Railway Stakes last start and is allocated more weight with 58.5kg.

Second favourite in the Kingston Town Classic odds is Famous Roman at $7, the Jim Taylor-trained Danetime six-year-old coming off a number of impressive runs at Ascot including wins in the Listed Northerly Stakes (1400m) and the Group 3 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) before running a gallant second to Gathering in the Railway Stakes.

Of course as punters found out last Saturday at Ascot, big upsets are always possible with $41 roughie Hadabeclorka winning the Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes.

So looking at the longer priced contenders in the Kingston Town Classic could prove a profitable move and horses at juicy odds capable of an upset include in-form four-year-old Ranger ($12), Adam Durrant’s mare Ma Chienne ($13), Redoute’s Choice mare Tranquility ($18) coming off a second place finish in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic, and Fred Kersley’s popular local Scenic gelding Grand Nirvana ($35).

The 2010 Kingston Town Classic is scheduled as Race 7 at Ascot on Saturday and the barrier draw for the feature will be taken tomorrow and published here.

Now is the perfect time to jump on the generous early odds available on the Kingston Town Classic field before prices shorten.
