Kingston Town Classic 2010 Barrier Draw & Early Race Scratchings

December 1st, 2010

The 2010 Kingston Town Classic barrier draw has taken place today in anticipation of the Perth Summer Racing Carnival feature running at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday, December 4th.

The $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) originally drew a final field of 16 gallopers but two horses have since been scratched.

Macau champion Luen Yat Forever (barrier 13) was withdrawn after transportation issues getting to Perth, while connections of Almohad decided to scratch the runner after they drew poorly with barrier 10.

Clear favourite to win this year’s Kingston Town Classic is the Neville Parnham-trained Playing God who has been in sensational form this season scoring two successive stakes wins at Ascot at their last two starts.

Currently paying $4.20 at Luxbet, in from their opening quote of $4.40, connections are reportedly happy with the Blackfriars three-year-olds’ barrier eight draw for the Kingston Town Classic.

The two other top elects are Lee Steere Stakes’ winner Famous Roman out in barrier 11 and Parnham’s other representative on Saturday God Has Spoken drawing ideally with barrier two.

Other horses in the Kingston Town Classic field that drew well and improving their chances of an upset on the weekend include beaten Railway Stakes favourite Colour Correct (barrier three), Grant Williams’ in-form four-year-old Ranger (barrier four) and the Fred Kersley-trained Grand Nirvana (barrier seven).

Suffering a blow with wider barriers are Sydney gallopers Triple Honour (barrier 15) and Trusting (barrier 12), and the Darren McAulliffe-trained Jeune mare Impressive Jeuney in the far outside barrier 16.

Scheduled as Race 7 on the card for Saturday’s Ascot race programme, the 2010 GR Engineering Kingston Town Classic is due to start at 4:00pm (local WA time).
