Ihtsahymn Pursues First Group 1 Win In 2013 Kingston Town Classic

December 3rd, 2013

Trainer Fred Kersley is hopeful that Ihtsahymn can claim his biggest career win when he runs in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic at Ascot this Saturday December 7, 2013.

The three-year-old won his last start in the Group 2 WA Guineas by a length at the same track on November 23, 2013, and will be up against open company for the first time in this weekend’s race.

Ihtsahymn has won four of his eight race starts and has earned more than $321,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

Kersely is instilled with confidence due to his low weight of 52 kilograms in the 2013 Kingston Town Classic.

“Looking at his rating after winning the Guineas, he will never get into a race with 52kg again in his life,” Kersley said.

“It will be by no means an easy task because he is inexperienced. To a fault he is immature. However, this race is generally regarded as a race three-year-olds can win.”

It will be his fourth race start this campaign and his first attempt at the 1,800 metre distance.

Ihtsahymn will have to face off against the likes of Luckygray in the race, however, will have multiple Kingston Town Classic winning jockey Steven Parnham in the saddle.

“Luckygray was outstanding in the Railway with 58kg and you can’t fault his form in Perth,” the trainer said.

“It’s going to be a hell of a field, the best horses we’ve got, and I don’t think it’s an easy race by any means.

“(Ihtsahymn) has been beating horses with limited race experience. Now he runs into the real professionals.”
