Pike Picks Elite Belle For 2013 Kingston Town Classic

December 3rd, 2013

Jockey William Pike has elected to ride Elite Belle in Saturday’s 2013 Kingston Town Classic over stable mate Ranger.

Elite Belle has won four of her 14 race starts and has earned more than $213,000 in prize money during her career.

The five-year-old won her last start in the Listed WA Stakes and placed second in the Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes in her previous start.

Pike feels she is his best chance to take out the $500,000 Kingston Town Classic.

“I like younger horses on the way up,” Pike said.

“I know at the end of the day she will have tried as hard as I will have to win the race.

“She is new on the scene and she deserves her chance.

“Her best win was first-up, and she should have won the Peters.

“Last start was a consolation and she did what she had to do to win.”

However, he still actually rates Ranger as the more talented horse going into the 2013 Kingston Town Classic.

“In truth, Ranger probably has the edge on her in ability, but it can be hard to get it out of him.

Ranger has won six of his 32 race starts and has earned more than $646,000 in prize money during his career.

His most recent start resulted in a a close third placing in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes at Ascot on November 9.
