Moriarty Primed for 2014 Kingston Town Classic Success

December 1st, 2014

Running on for a credible third in the featured Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) last time out on November 22nd, trainer Chris Waller is confident talented gelding Moriarty is more than a chance in Saturday’s Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot Racecourse.

Securing a commendable race record of 12 wins and a further 13 minor places from 55 competitive appearances on course so far, Moriarty settled well within the pack of 16 in the 2014 Railway Stakes before almost pulling of an incredible win when lugging a race-high 57kgs to a close third.

Understandably pleased with the Clodovil gelding’s continually competitive form, Waller said he has been thrilled with the work completed by Moriarty in the lead-up to the 2014 Kingston T           own Classic and is confident the race’s conditions will play directly into his strengths on Saturday.

“If you can keep the horses fit, healthy and happy then you can find races for them and the owners will be rewarded,” Waller told AAP.

“Moriarty nearly pulled off the impossible in the Railway with a big weight and goes back to weight for age for the Kingston Town and the extra 200 metres suits.

“He has been a great horse for his owners and has won them more than a million dollars.”

Returning to racing in great form this year, Moriarty was a standout performer for Waller over the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival; highlighted by a comfortable victory in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m), close second in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) and credible fifth in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m).

Running fifth in each of the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) and Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) first-up this time, the gelding out of Justice System placed sixth in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) on September 20th before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) on October 4th.

Unable to figure in contention in either of the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) leading into the Railway Stakes, Moriarty is currently featured as outright favourite for success in 2014 Kingston Town Classic betting markets at a quote of $4.60 with leading online bookie
