McAuliffe Confident in Kingston Town Classic Pair

December 5th, 2014

Having each earned their positions in Saturday’s feature race at Ascot Racecourse, trainer Darren McAuliffe is confident of a competitive performance from talented stable mates Fuchsia Bandana and Rebelson in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

Finishing outside the places on just three of fifteen competitive appearances at the races so far, Fuchsia Bandana has received an ideal lead-in to the 2014 Kingston Town Classic; running second in the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m) and winning the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m) before placing second in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) and a credible fifth in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) last time out.

Completing a strong piece of work at Lark Hill on Thursday morning, McAuliffe is confident of a first four finish for the classy Trade Fair mare.

“She has definitely improved, and the times and sectionals from her gallops this morning proved that,” McAuliffe told Perth Racing.

“The barrier is going to be a real plus, and she will be positive whether she leads or takes up a position, that will remain to be seen on what a few of the other runners do.

“She will be in the first four in the run, and she will give a good sight.”

Securing a strikingly-similar lead-in to the Kingston Town Classic to his stable mate in finishing third in a minor over 1400m first-up before winning the Listed Northam Cup (1800m), finishing second in the Listed Ascot Cup (1800m) and fifth in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m) most recently, McAuliffe is confident Rebelson can overcome the wide and somewhat awkward barrier 19 this weekend.

“Having a look at the draw, it’s probably not too bad. He will go forward anyway from that gate, and it’s the only way to ride him,” McAuliffe added.

“A couple of the top-weights Moriarty and horses like that that may not necessarily be right up on the speed have drawn inside, so we are probably a fair chance of getting across.”
