Whyte Booked for Neverland Ride in 2015 Kingston Town Classic

December 1st, 2015

Hong Kong-based hoop Douglas Whyte partnered Moriarty to success in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) in 2014 and is confident of defending his crown when he takes the ride on Neverland in the Ascot Racecourse feature on Saturday.

Neverland is yet to finish outside the first three through her eight start career and has tasted nothing but success this time having taking out each of the Scarboro Toyota BM66 (1400m), Atlas Pearls BM72 (1400m) and Listed Carbine Club Of WA Stakes (1400m) leading into the Kingston Town Classic.

Conceding the talented daughter of Big Brown undoubtedly faces a big step up in class for the 2015 Kingston Town Classic, owner Bob Peters told The West Australian he is thrilled to have confirmed Whyte for the ride on Saturday.

“This is a big jump in class for her,” Peters said.

“I put it down to us having a throw at the stumps with her.”

Up and coming hoop Chris Parnham was originally earmarked to take the ride on Neverland in the 2015 Kingston Town Classic but was overlooked in favour of the more-experienced Whyte.

“For three weeks Chris thought he has the ride on Neverland and it is frustrating for him now to probably miss out on a ride,” Parnham’s manager Dale Verhagen said.

Trialling well in the lead-up to her competitive debut, Neverland immediately stamped her claims as one to watch when taking out the XXXX Gold 3.y.o Maiden (1400m) in September 2014 before immediately returning to the paddock.

Returning this year for success in the Westspeed Plate (1400m) at Ascot on January 21st, the mare made a successful transition to black type company when taking out the Listed Make Your Own Magic Challenge (1500m).

Running second to subsequent two-time Group 1 champion and stable mate Delicacy in the Listed Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m) a fortnight later, Neverland returned to the paddock after placing third in the Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m) in her only other competitive start on March 14th.
